Dr James Farley is an Australian artist, researcher and teacher living in North Carolina, USA.

James' practice is grounded in place and informed by ecological thinking. His ongoing research is towards a visual language for ecological reciprocity and coexistence.

James has work held in collections around the world and has been a finalist in the Contemporary Landscape in Photography Award at Perth Centre of Photography (2022), the Bowness Photography Prize at Monash Gallery of Art (2019), The National Photography Prize at Murray at Museum Albury (2018), The Australian Photobook of the Year Prize (2015, 2019), and the Sony World Photography Prize (2015). He was an inaugural recipient of the CreateNSW Young Regional Artist Scholarship (2015) and was awarded the NSW/ACTYoung Achiever of the Year Award, Arts (2016).

James is passionate about education and creative communities. He has been involved in the development of multiple artist-run initiatives and has both established and participated in professional development, mentorships, and community-building programs across Australia.

From 2021-2023, James co-founded and directed F.Stop Workshop, an arts/education initiative in the Riverina offering photographic education for all ages and abilities.
